K.
N. Leibovic is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Biophysical
Sciences, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and
a member of the Center for Cognitive Science. He has served as Assistant
Director of the Center for Theoretical Biology, Director of Graduate
Studies in Biophysics, on numerous committees and on the Faculty Council
of the School of Medicine. He has also served as Program Direcror
of the Neuroscience Research Program at MIT, and he has been a Visiting
Professor at Berkeley, a Visiting Scholar at Harvard, at Hebrew University
in Jerusalem and at the Institute of Ophthalmology in London. His
research interests are broadly, in information processing in the nervous
system. This includes problems of representation and computation in
parallel systems with converging and diverging pathways; the neural
bases of psychophysical phenomena, especially in vision; theoretical
and experimental studies on vertebrate photo receptors, including
transduction and adaptation. He is the author of numerous publications,
book chapters and books, the most recent being Science of Vision,
Springer Verlag, 1990. He has initiated new courses in Nervous System
Theory and Interdisciplinary Topics in Vision. He has been an invited
speaker, including "Distinguished Lecturer" at meetings,
industrial research laboratories and universities in the USA and Europe.
